Derry Eagles Early Development Program (EDP) Policy
Posted: May 30, 2011
The Eagles program of the Derry Soccer Club participates in the Granite State Youth Soccer League (GSYSL) Early Development Program (EDP). EDP requires teams at the U8 and U9 travel divisions adhere to a specific game format. Therefore, all EDP games hosted by the Derry Soccer Club will play according to the following GSYSL EDP format:
- All U8 and U9 time slots should be for seventy-five (75) minutes, to allow for alternative (small-sided) games.
- All U8 and U9 matches must feature at least one small-sided game, either as a warm-up game or as the primary game format.
- Teams will play a minimum of 20 minutes in a 4V4 format with the option of stopping at 10 minutes to change teams up, 5-10 minute break and set up to play 2 – 10 minute halves of 6v6 with a 5 minute half time or 1 – 20 minute period.
- Coaches should discuss the game format prior to the game via phone or e-mail.
- 4V4 play is mandatory, not a suggestion.
- 6v6 play is optional not mandatory.
- Coaches should discuss game format before the game begins.
- All coaches need to follow these guidelines as part of the GSYSL EDP rules of play.
- Please report any team not willing to adhere to the format
The times above can be adjusted where extreme heat or cold are at issue, and the children’s health are endangered by extended play.
